Training of Export Communications Consultants in Europe

The British Chambers of Commerce hosted a 2-day training course at Woodland Grange conference centre near Leamington Spa between the 7 th and 9 th of September 2005. The purpose of the seminar was to train 6 potential Export Communications Review Consultants from Hungary as well as 2 potential ECR consultants from the UK. The delegation of Hungarian consultants was led by Peter Zoltan, training manager of the Csongrad Chamber of Commerce in Hungary. The training course was hosted and partly delivered by Robin Godfrey and Isabel Baumber, Managers of UKTI’s Export Communications Review. Further trainers included experienced ECR consultants Sarah Carroll, Hilary Charman and Bob Robertson.

Over the two days, a course on the delivery of export communications reviews covered the following topics: Understanding the client, Export Communications Strategy, Preparing for the review, Structuring the review, Contents of the Report, Cross-cultural considerations, Written Communications, Verbal Communications, Personal Interactions, Website localisation as well as Sources of Reference.

Later that same month (28 th and 29 th September), Robin Godfrey and Hilary Charman travelled to Katowice, Poland to train six consultants representing a number of Chambers in Poland. The training course was held at the Monopole Hotel in Katowice and was hosted by Milena Swatek and Bozena Lobzowska of the Katowice Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In October 2005, Robin Godfrey and Hilary Charman travelled to Madrid for two days to train six consultants from Madrid at a course hosted by Jacobo Perez of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.

Third Consortium Meeting

The EURICA partners met for a third time, in Katowice , Poland on the 30 th September and the 1 st October 2005 , in conjunction with the Polish export communication consultants training.

The meeting was hosted by Bozena Lobzowska and Milena Swatek of the Katowice Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and was held in the Monopole Hotel.

On day one of the meeting, 30 th September, the training of consultants was discussed and a general overview of progress was summarised by Stephen Hagen of Interact International. On day two of the meeting, 1 st October, Lisa Willoughby discussed financial/budget issues with each partner individually and advised the group of all requirements for the Interim Report stage of the project.

Second Consortium Meeting

The EURICA partners met for the second time, in Spain, on the 17th-19th March 2005.

The meeting was hosted by Jacobo Perez-Soba, Projects Manager for the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and was held in the Chamber offices based in the centre of Madrid.

On the 17th March Robin Godfrey and Isabel Baumber, of the British Chambers of Commerce, gave partners an introduction to the training course for consultants and explained how the course is currently carried out in the UK.

On the 18th and 19th March Lisa Willoughby presented an overview of project progress to date and Stephen Hagen summarised the workpackages and tasks.

Official Project Launch

The EURICA project was officially launched with all partners meeting in the UK on the 22nd and 23rd October 2004. The launch was held at the Village Hotel & Country Club in Coventry.

The meeting was hosted by Robin Godfrey, Project Manager, for the British Chambers of Commerce and the meeting was opened by John Dunsmure, Managing Director of the British Chambers of Commerce, who introduced the ECR scheme to the partners and advised how successful the current scheme is in the UK.

The chairman of the project, Prof. Stephen Hagen, introduced the project, its background, goals & aims and deadlines for the tasks were agreed.
